Team Canada wheelchair curling skip Mark Ideson certainly proved his flair for the dramatic in Cortina.
In an all-time moment to finish out the Paralympic gold medal game in Cortina, Ideson and his teammates weren't quite sure if they sat shot rock against their Chinese opponents with one shot remaining in the final end. It looked like Canada sat an inch or so closer to the pin than their opponents, but chaos ensued as the Canadians tried to figure out whether to throw their last shot or not.
Ideson opted for the light tap, clearly giving Canada the shot rock and eliminating any possibility of losing a gold medal game on a measurement or time violation.
"I was probably the only one in the building at at the last couple seconds that knew I was going to try to attempt to make the shot. "Because all along we were thinking we're going to throw it away. So, finally I let her go with 2.8 seconds left. And I had a funny grin on my face because I was thinking, 'man, that that must have been crazy to watch,' Ideson said in an interview with John Cullen on the latest episode of The Broom Brothers.
