The Broom Brothers: Episode 49
Emma Miskew joined John Cullen of The Broom Brothers Podcast for a wide-ranging interview that covers a variety of topics.
Some highlights below.
On winning Olympic bronze:
We turned our story around. We didn't let the start of our week, put us into a bad place where we gave up. No one gave up... We can't control what already happened, what's next? And I feel like that just put us into a really good spot where we mentally could just focus on the next game, or the next shot or whatever moment we were in, and, to put ourselves into the playoffs after the way we started, like, it was just even that alone, I was so proud that we gave ourselves a chance.
On missing the Scotties:
For multiple quads, the men can do both [the Olympics and the Brier], and the women cannot. And it's always this scheduling conflict reason. But no one has ever made any effort to change the schedule... word was spreading we chose not to go [to the Scotties], which was not the case. I feel like there's a solution, but, it's a little disappointing that as we're trying to get equality between men and women in sport, and it's come a long way... this is still an issue.
One of the biggest things about it too, is like the prize purse at the Scotties and the Brier is substantial, and, we aren't given the opportunity to play for any of that purse, nor do you get any compensation for winning the trials. So yeah, we were just a little disappointed that it's continuing to be an issue where there's an inequality between the men and the women.
