Niklas Edin's teammates are staying together, with Oskar Eriksson taking the reins for next season.
The retooled Team Eriksson was announced Wednesday on social media, three days after Edin decided to step back from the sport.
Eriksson, Rasmus Wranå and Christoffer Sundgren will be joined by Simon Olofsson, who moves into a full-time role after serving as their alternate.
The 34-year-old Eriksson won three Olympic medals — bronze in 2014, silver in 2018 and gold in 2022 — plus eight world championships and eight European championships with Edin as third and alternate.
Eriksson also won four Grand Slam of Curling men’s titles with the team, including the 2022 Tour Challenge when Edin sustained a knee injury during warm-ups for the semifinals. Eriksson, Wranå and Sundgren played as a trio for the remainder of the tournament, defeating Team Brad Gushue in the semis and Team Matt Dunstone in the championship game.
Team Edin finished in a disappointing ninth place at the Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina. Eriksson was involved in a bit of controversy after accusing Canada’s Marc Kennedy of double-touching a curling stone during their round-robin game, leading to a heated exchange that went viral.
They bounced back to win gold at the World Men’s Curling Championship last month in Ogden, Utah, in what turned out to be Edin's final international competition.
Eriksson is no stranger to calling the shots as he skipped and threw third stones when Sweden won gold at the World Junior Curling Championships in 2011.
He also earned silver at the 2014 World Men’s Curling Championship while skipping and throwing last rocks before joining Edin full-time for the following season.
