History of the GSOC Open
The GSOC Open is one of the four charter events in the series, kicking off the Grand Slam era in December 2001, and was first held as a men's invitational. Wayne Middaugh's team captured the inaugural title in Wainwright, Alberta.
Thunder Bay hosted the GSOC Open previously in 2002, with Kevin Martin winning the title. Martin holds the record for most GSOC Open men's titles as a skip with five.
A women's division was added to the GSOC Open in 2014. Eve Muirhead skipped her team to the first title in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
Rachel Homan has won the most GSOC Open women's titles as a skip with four, including back-to-back during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.
Yannick Schwaller and Silvana Tirinzoni skipped their squads to the titles last season in Saskatoon, completing the first "Swiss sweep" of the two titles during any event in the series.
