All good things must come to an end. Unfortunately for Italy’s Amos Mosaner and Stefania Constantini, it happened on home ice at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

The reigning Olympic and world mixed doubles champions suffered their first defeat of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 on Thursday, a 7-2 setback to the husband-and-wife duo of Brett Gallant and Jocelyn Peterman from Canada.

The loss snapped a 23-game winning streak for Mosaner and Constantini that dated back to the 2021 world championship and dropped Italy to 1-1 in round-robin play.

Canada remains undefeated at 3-0.

Mosaner and Constantini ran the table at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing with an 11-0 record, ultimately defeating Norway for gold to take home Italy’s first-ever curling medal. They followed that up with a perfect 11-0 run through the 2025 world championship, taking down Scotland’s Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds to win gold.

Despite raucous support from the Italian fans on Thursday, Mosaner and Constantini spent the entire game playing catch-up after Canada scored five in the first end to take an insurmountable lead. Canada held a 6-2 advantage at the break, added one in the fifth to close out the scoring, and then it was handshake time after six.

The Italians will look to start another winning streak on Friday with a pair of round-robin games. They face a husband-and-wife duo once more, the Swiss team of Yannick Schwaller and Briar Schwaller-Hürlimann (4:05 a.m. EST), followed by a Draw 6 contest against Estonia's Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill (8:35 a.m. ET).

Up next for Canada is a Friday morning contest with Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin from the United States in Draw 5 (4:05 a.m. EST).
