Two-time Canadian champion Chelsea Carey will handle skip duties for Selena Njegovan's team to start the season.

The Winnipeg-based team announced the news on social media Thursday, as Njegovan is expected to give birth to twins next month.

"Chelsea brings a wealth of experience and leadership, and we’re grateful to have her join us," the team said.

Carey, who is originally from Winnipeg and lives in Calgary, won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2016 and 2019.

She also captured the Grand Slam of Curling's Canadian Open title in 2018.

Njegovan most recently threw third stones and skipped for Kaitlyn Lawes, finishing runner-up at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts last season.

Her new crew features third Erin Pincott, second Margot Flemming and lead Krysten Karwacki. The team enters the season ranked 25th in the world.
