Tirinzoni, McEwen win Stu Sells Oakville Tankard
Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni defeated compatriot Alina Paetz 8-4 in seven ends to win the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard on Sunday.
Tirinzoni broke open a 2-2 tie with a four-ender in the fifth. Paetz scored a deuce in the sixth, but Tirinzoni replied with a double of her own in the seventh to ice the game.
Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen topped Toronto’s John Epping 6-2 in seven ends to win the men’s division. McEwen scored deuces in the third and fifth ends to lead 4-2 and added another pair with a steal of two in the seventh. Epping settled for singles in the first and fourth ends.
McEwen’s rink finished the tournament with a perfect 7-0 record.
