Team Rocque heading separate ways for next cycle

Let the flurry of roster changes begin.

The end of the Olympic cycle is expected to see several teams shake it up over the summer and Team Rocque has already announced they’ll be splitting up after the season.

The Edmonton-based club posted the news Monday on Facebook.

Laura Crocker, Taylor McDonald and Jen Gates started this quadrennial with Chelsea Carey at skip. Carey moved on after only one season and the trio added Kelsey Rocque fresh from winning her second consecutive world junior championship.

Rocque and McDonald, who claimed the 2014 world junior title together, also teamed on the University of Alberta Pandas squad capturing Canadian university championships in 2015 and 2016 and Winter Universiade gold in 2017.

The team switched things up midway through this season. Crocker took over skips duties while still throwing third with Rocque remaining at fourth. They reached the quarterfinals at the Meridian Canadian Open in Camrose, Alta., last month losing to eventual champion Carey.

Team Rocque won three World Curling Tour events during their three seasons together including December’s Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minn.
