Kim won the gold medal at the 2011 Winter Universiade.

Kim finished fourth in the round-robin with a 5-3 record to just qualify for the playoffs, defeated top-seed Yusuke Morozumi of Japan 8-7 in the semifinals and beat China’s Dejia Zou 9-8 in the gold-medal match. The victory also clinched them a spot in the season-ending Humpty’s Champions Cup.
