Stoughton defeats Morris to win 2003 Players’ Championship

LEDUC, Alta. — Winnipeg’s Jeff Stoughton scored four in the eighth end to defeat John Morris, from Stayner, Ont., 8-3 to win the Players’ Championship.

Stoughton trailed 2-1 after three ends and grabbed the lead for good with a deuce in the fourth followed by a steal of one to lead 4-2.

Morris settled for a single in the seventh but Stoughton iced the game with the four-ender in the eighth.

It’s the first career Grand Slam of Curling title for Stoughton, third Jon Mead, second Garry VanDenBerghe and lead Jim Spencer.
