LEDUC, Alta. — Jeff Stoughton scored four in the eighth end to defeat John Morris 8-3 Sunday and capture the Players’ Championship.

It’s the first career Grand Slam of Curling title for Stoughton, third Jon Mead, second Garry VanDenBerghe and lead Jim Spencer.

The Winnipeg team earned $50,000 while the Stayner, Ont., club of Morris, third Joe Frans, second Brent Laing and lead Craig Savill collected $25,000.

Morris scored a deuce in the third end to grab a 2-1 advantage, but it was all Stoughton from there matching with a couple in four to retake the lead and adding a steal in five to make it a two-point gap. Following a blank in six, Morris was held to a single in seven and Stoughton iced the game with his four-ender in eight.
