WATERLOO, Ont. — Glenn Howard, from Coldwater, Ont., defeated Edmonton’s Randy Ferbey 5-4 to win the Masters championship Sunday.

It’s the first career Masters title for Howard, third Richard Hart, second Brent Laing and lead Craig Savill and the rink earned $30,000 in the opening leg of the Grand Slam of Curling series.

Howard scored two in the opening end, but Ferbey matched with a pair of points in the second to knot it up 2-2. After a blank in three, the two teams alternated points through the fourth end to the seventh with Howard holding the hammer coming home tied 4-4.

Howard chipped out Ferbey’s stone with his last rock in eight to capture the championship.
