Feltscher replaces lead Urech with Howald for next season

Two-time world champion Binia Feltscher has made a roster change heading into the Olympic season.

The Flims, Switzerland, skip announced a lineup switch with Carole Howald taking over for long-time lead Christine Urech.

Howald has served as the team’s alternate several times in the past winning gold medals with Feltscher at the 2014 and 2016 world championships and the 2014 European Championship. She also captured gold as the alternate for Alina Paetz’s squad at the 2015 worlds.

“We would like to thank Christine very much for everything and hope that she will continue to dedicate her passion and experience to curling,” the team said in a statement on their website, translated from German. “Howald is already well integrated with the team, she was our spare for all our major success. With the change at the lead position, we hope for a new sportive input and would like to be prepared as best as we can for the upcoming Swiss Olympic Trials in October.”

Feltscher earned a silver medal playing third for Switzerland at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
