Glen Despins wins 2003 Canadian Open

BRANDON, Man. — Regina’s Glen Despins edged Dave Boehmer, from Petersfield, Man., 8-7 to win the 2003 Canadian Open of Curling championship.

It’s the first Grand Slam title for the rink of Despins, Rod Montgomery, Phillip Germain and Dwayne Mihalicz. The team earned $30,000 in the tournament.

Edmonton’s Kevin Martin topped Winnipeg’s Kerry Burtnyk 7-4 in the third-place match.
